Should there be a list of all the artists in the category tree?

Yes! Would make surfing much easier!
Sure, I won't use it much, but it's a good idea
Nah, what's the point?

New Age, Ambient, Electronica, Berlin School : Software - Fire Works

Software - Fire Works
Software - Fire Works
mp3 @ 160 Kbps | 1:05:47 min. | 1998 | 74.8 MB

After the 'pale' "Sky Dive", I approached this album with less enthusiasm than I usually greet a Software release.

With 13 tracks available there’s certainly enough to get your teeth into, and the opener "Salut" initially gives the impression that it’s going to be a 'feelgood' US based fanfare album in the vein of Arkenstone’s "Olympia". However, the next piece "Lightning Bugs" realigns proceedings towards the classic Software sound of lush synth symphonics and choral washes. The rhythmics and sequences then hit home and a superb piece results. Next we have "Red Comets" and this is the sort of form I’ve not heard from Software since the heady heights of the album "Fragrance". It is quite simply a breathtaking piece of floating choral synths which implores you to hit the repeat button time and time again. The good news is that this is not an isolated case of brilliance. "Fireballs" is an uptempo piece which makes clever use of samples, "Fireworks Tattoo" develops restrained sequencing into infectious melodics and sound effects, while "Colourful Sphere" serves up another helping of those beguiling choral symphonics. It’s not all plain sailing though. The Enigma card is occasionally played with only partial success, and there are choirboy and operatic sections which do little for me (especially on "Flash Report" where some great electronics are swamped by ludicrous opera singing).

However, for me the good far outweighs the bad and those yearning for the Software quality of old will find plenty to entertain here.

New Age, Ambient, Electronica, Berlin School : Software - Sky Dive

Software - Sky Dive
Software - Sky Dive
mp3 @ 160 Kbps | 53:27 min. | 1997 | 60.3 MB

"The feel-free Performance" and "Only the Sky is the limit!" are a couple of the themes touted on this album. As you may have guessed it's a relaxation job, with lots of floating soundscapes and drifting effects.

All the music is composed by Peter Mergener and Michael Weisser, and played by the Software team. However, true fans of Software may dislike the new twist by the lack of the melodic sequenced patterns of the earlier works. There are one or two references to greater times, but overall the music is more downtempo and ambient.

Anyway, fans of New Age will not be displeased with this album.

New Age, Ambient, Electronica, Berlin School : Software - Heaven To Hell

Software - Heaven To Hell
Software - Heaven To Hell
mp3 @ 192 Kbps | 1:10:07 min. | 1995 | 96 MB

Composed by Peter Mergener and Michael Weisser and played and mixed by Peter Mergener, "Heaven To Hell" is Software in classical/spiritual mode.

The opening title track is a strident theme and the heavenly choirs are much in evidence as well as the occasional demons and tormented soul as in "Devil To Love". Inevitably one mentions Enigma when tolling bells and chanting monks are featured but the Vangelis album "Heaven And Hell" also springs to mind even if the styles are different the concept is familiar. Like Vangelis, Software are no slouches when it comes to knocking together a few good tunes and the atmosphere is maintained successfully throughout the set. In places it sounds like an alternative soundtrack to The Exorcist but it certainly achieves its aims.

Classy and worth investigating. Stock up on candles and holy water.

New Age, Ambient, Electronica, Berlin School : Software - Space Design-The Remix

Software - Space Design-The Remix
Software - Space Design-The Remix
mp3 @ 320 Kbps | 57:45 min. | 1993 | 129 MB

"Space Design - The Remix" is actually a strong effort from the Software team of Michael Wiesser and Peter Mergener.

While much of their electronica is formulaic and basic, this set has something extra. Mergener performed all of the music, with Weisser co-writing and producing. There are touches of bravado, dynamic symphonic synths, and vast atmospheres. Mergener surrounds those elements with deep Berlin-school sequences. This is an excellent starting point for a Software collection.

It will appeal to fans of Klaus Schulze, Robert Schroeder and Peter Seiler.

Software - Cave
mp3 @ 160 Kbps | 1:03:56 min. | 1993 | 73.2 MB

"Cave" features the Software 'team' of Billy Byte and Michael Weisser composing and Steve Totenberg performing.

The album features good electronic music that's quite different from the early Software works, being more New Age like. It includes ambient soundscapes mixed with subtle sequences and some harp samples from Lisa Franco.

This CD will appeal to fans of Klaus Schulze, Robert Schroeder and Peter Seiler.

Psicodreamics - Fantasynth (2009)
mp3 320 CBR Kbps | 66 min. | 2009 | 152 MB

Fantasynth is the brand new work of ambient- new age project Psicodreamics, originally created by Spanish musician Salva Moreno. An album that fusions genres and styles as different as ambient, new age, downtempo and chillout, mixing not only ethnic and symphonic instrumentation and orchestration but synthesized sounds and effects, on a more actual and innovatory musical outlook without leaving his characteristic and unmistakable style.

Software - Modesty Blaze II
Software - Modesty Blaze II
mp3 @ 160 Kbps | 1:01:18 min. | 1992 | 69.1 MB

"Modesty Blaze II" was composed by the Software team of Michael Weisser and Billy Byte including the voices of Fran White and Uli Orth.

The album follows the same line of music of its predecessor "Modesty Blaze I", featuring a dance-mix style with the typical spacey portions that Software specializes in.

Software - Modesty Blaze I
mp3 @ 224 Kbps | 58:36 min. | 1991 | 93.2 MB

Software is an enigma, and the double meaning of this will soon become clear. The sole creative constant in the group is German artist Michael Weisser, who also writes science-fiction novels. He draws on science fiction, high-tech poetry, computer graphics, holograms and thoroughly entertaining ideas in the 'electronic multi-media event' that each new Software becomes.

"Modesty Blaze" heads for modern terrain, R-rated in parts (along with the erotic packaging layout), and occasionally captures the dance-mix style of the group Enigma (MCMXC A.D.). In addition, there are typically spacey portions that Software specializes in. With song titles like "Erotic Desire," "Naked Skin," "Slippery Dune" and "Masculine Magic," as well as three versions of the title track, you get the idea that the dance crowd and rave party scene are prime targets.

Subtitled "The Erotic Message", there is little that is soft about this album from Software.
